Did you know that the state of Virginia has the highest percentage of vanity plates on cars? If you live anywhere in the DMV (DC-Maryland-Virginia) then you may have noticed the phenomenon. (Don't worry I checked my facts: back in 2007 it was verified by a
study run by the AAMVA.) Vanity plates are so popular in the area that there is even a Bethesda-based band called The Vanity Plates. I don't go a day without seeing a new exhibit of this 'minimalist poetry in motion'. This morning began with UDAIPUR, which is an innocent enough city in India. On a vanity plate the true intention lost me at 'diaper.' I ran into this car three different times within 12 miles. I followed DONT DUI most of the way home on the beltway. And I am regularly disappointed that the driver of TIMELRD is female.
If you had a vanity plate, what would it say?
